Guides
How KiloPlot works
Short guides for each part of the product. In the app, the ? button at the top replays the product tour and shows tips for the page you're on.
Getting started
Every new account comes with a sample project: a finished retail site with a design, economics, drawings and a year of results. It's the fastest way to see how everything fits together.
- Open the sample project from Projects, or choose Take the product tour from the ? menu at the top of any page.
- Run a site report on an address you know, then choose Start project to save it.
- Add chargers on the Design tab, then check the Economics tab.
- When a project is approved, lock its baseline on the Actuals tab to start your track record.
The sample project doesn't count toward your plan. Edit it or delete it; you can bring it back from the ? menu.
Site reports
A site report pulls everything public about a location onto one page.
- Search any US address (suggestions appear as you type) or click a point on the map. ⌘K jumps to the search box.
- Read the score and the sections: nearby chargers and their prices, traffic, demographics, EV registrations, the serving utility, NEVI corridor distance, disadvantaged-community status and incentives.
- Use Layers on the map for utility grid capacity (where published), EVs per ZIP, income and more.
- Share a login-free link, download the PDF or export nearby chargers as CSV, or choose Start project.
Each new site analyzed counts toward your plan's monthly lookups; sites you've saved as projects don't.
Batch scoring
Score a whole list of candidate sites in one run (Pro and Team).
- On Batch scoring, drop an Excel or CSV file with addresses, or latitude and longitude columns.
- Check the columns it found, then run it. Each site gets the same scoring as a site report.
- Sort the results, open any site for the full report, and start projects from the best ones.
Design and estimate
Lay the site out on current aerial imagery; quantities and cost follow as you draw.
- On the Design tab, open Equipment and choose the chargers (from the catalog) and how many.
- Draw parking rows (R) or press L to detect the parking lots and fill them with stalls in one click.
- Place chargers (C), the transformer and switchgear (E, then T or G), and conduit (U) or trench (N) runs.
- Watch the live estimate at the bottom; open Breakdown to group divisions into the summary your client sees.
- Review the Checks tab: service capacity, cable reach, voltage drop, accessible stalls and bollards.
Economics
Every project gets a utilization forecast; Pro adds the full pro forma.
- Pick the site type and opening month. Switch between Conservative (a 90% chance the site does at least this well), Expected and Upside (10%), and set a target to see the chance of reaching it in years 1, 3 and 5.
- Electricity cost comes from the serving utility's rate schedules, including demand charges, using the cheapest eligible rate each year. You can choose a different schedule.
- Compare the suggested price with nearby stations' posted prices.
- On Pro: incentives, bonus depreciation and debt, then IRR, NPV, payback, break-even price and a downloadable 10-year pro forma.
Drawings and 3D
Generate a preliminary plan set and renders from the design (Pro and Team).
- Add your logo in Company & team; it appears in every title block.
- Open the Drawings tab for the site plan, riser, one-line with circuit schedule, load calculation and details sheets.
- Export the layout as DXF for your engineer.
- Open the 3D render, pick a view, and save images or a 3D file.
These are preliminary drawings for utility applications and bids, not stamped engineering drawings.
Actuals and the track record
Compare what you underwrote with what actually happened, and build a record across projects.
- On the Actuals tab, choose Lock baseline. This freezes the forecast, pro forma and estimate; later design changes don't move it.
- Add bids, the contract and final costs, by division or as a total.
- Fill in the utility timeline: application, approval, energization and any upgrade costs.
- Import your charger network's monthly export (CSV) or add months by hand.
- The Track record page rolls every project up by cost division, utility and site type.
Your costs and results are private to your company. Contributing anonymized outcomes to industry benchmarks is optional and off until you turn it on.
Team and billing
Everything for your company lives in Company & team.
- Set the company name, address and logo.
- Invite teammates by link (Pro includes 3 users; add more anytime).
- Upgrade, switch between monthly and yearly, add users or update your card from Manage billing.
